2 things needed to age well that few people are willing to do.

Are you doing more and more yet:

Still having aches and pains?

Still having clothes fit tight around your waist?

Seeing odd symptoms like poor sleep, constipation, and even hair loss creep around?

Maybe even feelings of overwhelm or anxiety?

You can keep pushing, keep literally shoving more and more into your life, but for your own well-being, you deserve to know, it will not help.

If you want to age well and prevent disease, decreasing chronic stress is imperative.

Did you know that chronically elevated levels of cortisol (our stress hormone) actually breaks down muscle and bone?

Did you know that psychological stress ALONE has been linked to an increased risk for insulin resistance, non-alcoholic fatty liver, heart disease, and cancer?

It’s imperative to learn to have balance, so here are two things that have become extremely beneficial in my clients’ lives (as well as my own) and can hopefully help you, too.

  1. View slow workouts as equally productive as fast workouts.

    Movement should feel good. And in order for it to feel good we must have a good foundation - walking is productive, flexibility, core strength, mobility workouts - these slower workouts lay the foundation to a body that can age well and move well.

    These foundational movements are not built in the sprint workout or heavy weight lifting, they require us to slow down. And that is productive. However, many injuries with aging, many achy joints, are a result of people unwilling to slow down and view these workouts and productive.

    And yes, even walking alone is a productive form of movement. If someone asked me the best way to lose weight, I would say walk more every day first and foremost. Walking boosts your daily calories burned, helps decrease stress, and provides endless benefits to our body.

    But most people are unwilling to see slow and steady as productive.

  2. Eat enough nutrient dense foods consistently.

    If it doesn’t hurt we don’t think it’s working.

    But our lack of viewing fuel as nourishment, and rather as something that must be constantly controlled has forced many people to have a very misconstrued outlook on nutrition.

    Starving yourself will rob you of the energy requirements to ultimately get what you want: a healthy, vibrant metabolism.

    Building muscle requires calories.

    The more muscle you have the higher the amount of calories you burn at rest. And the more muscle you build, the stronger your bones.

    Fueling your body efficiently also provides you with the energy to do the cardiovascular workouts and walking necessary to age well.

    Most people eat less, and then over consume on foods not in line with their goals.

    Wouldn’t you be better served to eat enough nutrient dense foods and build the body and health you desire?
