If you knew there was a medication or supplement that could decrease your risk for the number one cause of death globally (heart disease) would you take it?
Who wouldn't?!
Shockingly (or unshockingly, depending on your faith in the medical system) a recent research study has validated what so many of us know to be true:
Your lifestyle choices dictate your ability to decrease heart disease.
The study found that reversing pre-diabetes through lifestyle choices rather than through weight loss alone, decreased the risk for heart disease by 50%.
There is not a statin that will do that.
There is not a supplement that will do that.
Here are 2 key takeaways you should know:
1. Before you think, "Well, I don't have pre-diabetes, so that doesn't really apply to me," think again.
Where are your habits leading you?
If they are not leading you away from pre-diabetes, they could likely be leading you into the typical path of aging which is to become more insulin resistant and pre-diabetic. Just like we don't accidentally wonder out of a forest, it takes intentional action to get out of of that forest and to age well and avoid pre-diabetes.
Unless you are actively working to avoid pre-diabetes as you age, most people will wake up one day and be pre-diabetic - no matter their weight. (You can be pre-diabetic and have a normal fasting glucose and have a normal body weight.)
The body shows signs prior to a diagnosis such as: poor sleep, inability to lose weight, high cholesterol, imbalanced hormones, abdominal weight gain, etc.

2. Weight loss is great, but healing happens when you change your habits.
What this research article showed was that weight loss alone did not cause the 50% decrease in heart disease risk.
It was, rather, driven by a change in lifestyle habits. When your doctor suggested that weight loss medication did he tell you that?
Did you, or those you know, who have improved their life with weight loss meds also learn how to change their lifestyle?
When celebrities advertise the medications that cause quick weight loss and the appeal of it all, do they also show the hard work to change eating habits and to workout - the things that truly lead to vitality?
Did these medications teach individuals how to eat nutrient dense carbohydrates? Did the medications teach them how to build muscle? To improve sleep? To incorporate cardio? To detoxify properly?
Of course not.
So while the world values weight loss alone, know that true healing happens in the day to day, in the consistency.
Remember, sustainable weight loss is a result of healing your body. Healing your body is not a result of weight loss.
